What is it really like to be a franchisee? That’s the real question if you are seriously debating between buying a coffee franchise or starting your own business from scratch.
There are many aspects to contemplate when deciding what is best for you, including the franchise cost. However, the responsibility of running one (or many) of our stores can offer many more lifestyle opportunities that can’t simply be written down in financial calculations!
For a clearer insight into the reality of being a franchisee, we went straight to the source. We interviewed Martin, one of our franchisees, who has two Esquires Coffee shops set up in the Midlands to offer you the inside scoop.
The Daily Life of a Franchisee
Let’s get straight to it! If you’re wondering what the reality of being a franchisee is like, we went straight in and asked!
What is a Typical Day Like For an Esquires Franchisee?
‘My day normally revolves around daily tasks, e.g. orders, social media accounts, staff rotas and the ubiquitous emails. I always try and build in time to think about how the week or month is going and “what next”?’
And when Martin isn’t busy doing daily tasks? He makes the most out of our ethically sourced beverages!
What's Your Go-to Coffee Order?
‘I’m definitely a ristretto man, so for me it’s a Flat White or maybe a Cortado, sometimes with a glass of water on the side.’

Franchisee Highlights
Being responsible for your own business can be challenging, but it’s always rewarding. Being an integral part of the local community, franchising with Esquires Coffee offers franchisees a foot in the door with our loyal customer base.
What Do You Like About Being a Franchisee
‘…there are three elements that constantly bring me joy: talking to (and delighting) customers, embedding our business within the local business community and developing my staff's careers.’

Franchisee Support
Here at Esquires Coffee, it is all about you, the franchisee, and how we can support you in getting the most out of your business. Our franchisees often site this as central to franchising success
Why Choose Esquires?
‘I wanted the experience and collaboration that a franchise offers. After looking at McDonalds, I decided on a franchisor that was less corporate and more focussed on a partnership approach. Getting the right chemistry and tone with the franchisor was of particular importance to me.’
What's the Franchisor Relationship Like?
‘Esquires involve me in two-way conversations, ranging from store performance to new initiatives. We can tailor-fit solutions that work to the unique requirements of my stores in their quite different towns and locations.’
An Independent Feel
At Esquires Coffee, we strive for our coffee stores to feel independent. Whether this aesthetically, in their interior design, or in the feeling of owning your own business, we know that our franchisees want to feel that each store is unique to them.
What are Your Coffee Shops Like?
‘We have two stores, in Stratford-upon-Avon and a recently opened one in Leamington Spa, both South Warwickshire market towns. One is quite cool and contemporary and the other more cosy and classic coffee shop. One store is right in the centre of town; the other is on the periphery and next to a railway station.’

Plans for the Future
Esquires Coffee is expanding throughout the UK, with various franchising opportunities. Our strong positioning and chances for growth is an aspect that appeals to many franchisees, with our interviewee commenting:
‘Esquires has a great place within this sector, and I definitely see more stores opening across The Midlands, bridging the customer requirements from a great takeaway coffee, right up to an affordable and delicious eatery.’
Why Become an Esquires Coffee Franchisee?
Franchising with us offer an array of benefits – Martin puts the realities of being a coffee shop franchise owner best:
‘Whilst you’re perhaps rarely fully off-duty, becoming a franchisee is a great adventure! Not only is it a great way to bring in an income, but you can also build a sustainable business and one that reflects your own values and personality.’
