Esquires Coffee are hosted our annual ‘Barista of the Year’ championships at London Business Design Centre on Tuesday 13th May 2014.
Esquires Barista’s from around the country have been battling it out during regional heats to reach next week’s final! Here the chosen few competed in front of a team of expert judges from Matthew Algie to take home the crown of ‘Esquires Coffee Barista of the Year 2014!’
This year’s competition focused on ‘consistency’ and ‘quality’. Barista’s were put through their paces, tasked with producing their ‘Signature’ drink, single espresso and latte with latte art.
After deliberation between the judges it was Esquires Coffee Scarborough’s Gemma Hanson who took home not only the trophy for ‘Latte Artist of the Year’ but also the grand prize of being crowned ‘Barista of the Year 2014! Gemma was crowned winner because of her exceptional latte art skills, quality espresso and ‘signature drink’- Iced Caffe Creme, made with spiced custard and earthly tones!
Our 1st runner-up was Sami from Esquires Coffee Bromley, who impressed the judges with her butterscotch macchiato, served with a swirl of caramel syrup!
In third place we had joint runners-up Simone from Esquires Coffee Durham and Helena from Esquires Coventry. Simone wowed the judges with her ‘Lemon Meringue Pie’ inspired signature drink, whilst Helena created a masterful ‘Mulled Spice White Chocolate Mocha’!
